Hello, I'm an artist and sculptor based near to the City of Bath. It's an area rich with history and inspiring monuments and creative works, from the glowing, golden Bathstone of the formal Georgian city to the white horses of Wiltshire and of course, Stonehenge. The famed Holburne Museum is a center for Art and Sculpture in Bath. So, there is much to inspire here.
I work mostly in clay but also in metals, glass and other media. My art is based on the human form in landscape, with which I find it is possible to express intimate aspects of our common experience. The particular expression of a subtle movement or even a look, or the comparison with another animal can speak to the viewer in a language which is intuitively understood. Juxtapositions with natural elements have also been a part of my work. Looking for non verbal cues with which to address the viewer in this way requires a searching approach to creativity, a continual noting and awareness of the subtle shifts in effect which happen with each touch of the clay. There is a serendipitous element to art. Certainly, shades of meaning evade us when we think of expression as just an arrangement of the limbs and body with certain muscles contracting and others relaxing. Finding meaning requires staying open to the little shifts in the responsive material under the hands, seeing what each touch evokes and refraining from doing too much.
My art is available to purchase directly or through exhibiting galleries and art fairs. I also undertake bespoke commissions. You are welcome to email me with any questions you have about an artwork, commissions or purchasing. An example of a commission I produced on behalf of the Church of St Benedict can be viewed.
Chloe Clemency White first learned about clay at home from her mother, then returned to it again as an adult during a painting crisis. She completed her BA (hons) in Fine Art Painting at the University of the West of England, Bristol, in 1995. Since then she has exhibited paintings, prints and sculpture in solo and group shows in Bristol in the UK and in California. Having recently returned to the UK my focus is now on exhibiting art work in and around Bath, including sculpture in Somerset, sculpture in Wiltshire, and art fairs in London, Surrey and Sussex.
